Chronology of cameras Butcher
This reflex box camera has the peculiar feature of having two separate shutters: one for instantaneous shots and the other for long exposures. Both are inconveniently located within reach of the lens on the front face.
In the series of "I don't see why I should refrain from making it poorly designed," the distance adjustment is done using a dial on the top of the camera.
However, these oddities have a technical justification. On the right side, there is a latch for closing the housing. Once removed, it becomes possible to pull up a large part of the camera, leaving only a rectangular parallelepiped at the bottom. The two shutters located on this part only function by contacting movable parts in the upper section. Therefore, it had to be designed to consolidate as many functions as possible at its top.
Overall, it is quite simplistic. A more refined version can be found later under the Houghton brand (Houghton and Butcher merged from 1926 onward) with various names.
